Swell Surf Company is a fictional surf shop located at the heart of the Oregon coast. Targeting all surfers—from the newly addicted to the cold water die-hards, Swell offers quality products that are fair trade and sustainably sourced. Have a design idea for your next board? Swell's logo is a play on some surfing glossary terms—point break, breaking lines, crumbly shoulders. It combines a look that is elegant, refined and vibrates, inviting you to hit the water. The rhythmic lines of Swell's visual identity take you right to the line up and looking out. To blend the vibe of the PNW and to get that classic surfy feel, I chose a palette of retro natural colors, with a kick. Isn't that swell?
The two boards featured here—7’4” Vesper and 9’ Glider, are a real collab with Blackfern Board Company—a Portland board shaper. I designed the geometric layout and printed the color fields from woodgrain on washi paper. My Vesper and I have charged some rad places and it’s always exciting to see the weathered sun effects on the original colors!
